Dr. Jennifer Beecker – Division of Dermatology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $39,718. Title -“Systemic treatment of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis: A pilot study in advance of a Phase III clinical trial”.

Dr. Edward Clark – Division of Nephrology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $39,988. Title – “Saline versus Albumin Fluid for Extracorporeal Removal with Slow Low Efficiency Dialysis”.

Dr. Tetyana Kendzerska – Division of Respirology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $40,000. Title – “Validation of provincial health administrative data algorithms to identify patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): Feasibility project”.

Drs. Rashmi Kothary and Michael Schlossmacher- Division of Neurology received a Translational Research Grant in the amount of $40,000. Title – “Filling a knowledge gap in multiple system atrophy, a lethal disease of oligodendrocytes”.

Dr. Jeff McCurdy- Division of Gastroenterology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title – “The Risk of Venous Thromboembolism in Post-discharge Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease”.

Dr. Mitchell Sabloff - Division of Hematology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title – “Dose-extended-Total Body Irradiation and Plerixafor followed by an Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for the Treatment of Refractory Acute Leukemia”.

Dr. Sanjay Murthy – Division of Gastroenterology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title – “The Impact of a Physician Incentive Program on Continuity of Care and Health Outcomes in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Cirrhotic Patients”.

Dr. Jodi Warman – Division of Neurology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title-“LGMDx-Seq: An Transformative Diagnostic Exome/RNA Sequencing Pipeline for Patients with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies”.

Dr. Lisa Duffett – Division of Hematology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title-“Optimizing the Diagnosis of Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia Using Quantified Anti-Platelet Factor 4 Immunological Testing: A Prospective Cohort Study”.

Dr. Dar Dowlatshahi – Division of Neurology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000. Title – “Prospective evaluation of intraluminal internal carotid artery free-floating thrombus”.

Dr. Sunita Mulpuru – Division of Respirology, Dr. Kathryn Suh – Division of Infectious Diseases and Dr. Alan Forster – Division of General Medicine received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $33,004. Title – “Investigating Respiratory Infection Control Practice in Canadian Hospitals: A National Survey”.

Title – “Development of Diagnostic Algorithms To Predict Disease Phenotype And Validation Of Service Codes In Adult-Onset Ulcerative Colitis Patients Using Ontario Health Administrative Data: A Pilot Study”.

Dr. Kevin Burns – Division of Nephrology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $18,281. Title – “Arterial stiffness in healthy subjects and patients with End‐Stage‐Renal Disease: A Feasibility Study”.

Dr. Bill Cameron – Division of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Greg Knoll – Division of Nephrology and Dr. Jason Tay - Division of Hematology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $35,000.  Title – “Immunoglobulin therapy for secondary hypogammaglobulinemia: hematopoietic stem cell and renal transplantation”.

Dr. Tiago Mestre and Dr. David Grimes- Division of Neurology, Drs. Santanu Chakraborty and Gerd Melkus – Department of Medical Imaging received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $33,730.  Title – “Use of high resolution isotropic/three dimensional magnetic resonance imaging as a biomarker for the early distinction of Parkinson’s Disease from Atypical Parkinsonian Disorders”.

Dr. Shane English – Division of Critical Care received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $15,993. Title – “Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage- red blood cell transfusion associated mortality (SAHaRA): A Canadian Multicentre retrospective cohort study”.

Dr. Hussein Abujrad and Dr. Teik Chye Ooi – Division of Endocrinology received a Developmental Research Grant in the amount of $26,304.  Title – “PCSK9 and Pro-inflammatory Cytokines in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease on Hemodialysis

Dr. Daniel Kobewka – Division of General Internal Medicine received a research fellowship for two years in the amount of $40,000.

November 2013

 Dr. Esteban Gandara – Division of Hematology received a Developmental Grant in the amount of $32,302. Title – “Rivaroxaban for the Prevention of Restenosis after Infrainguinal Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty for Critical Limb Ischemia-The RIFLE study”.

 Dr. Rakesh Patel – Division of Critical Care received a Developmental Grant in the amount of $7,761.  Title – “Determining the Safety of Enoxaparin Prophylaxis in Critically Ill Adults with Severe Renal Insufficiency”.

Dr. Swapnil Hiremath – Division of Nephrology, Dr. Greg Knoll – Division of Nephrology and Dr. Dean Fergusson – Division of Clinical Epidemiology received a Research Priority Grant in the amount of $99,775.  Title “The Prevention of Acute Kidney Injury following Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography: A Pilot Trial of Oral Fluid versus Intravenous Saline”.

Dr. Vicente Corrales-Medina – Division of Infectious Diseases received a Research Priority Grant in the amount of $96,758. Title – “Vascular inflammation as measured by 18FDG-PET/CT scan during acute pneumonia: A feasibility study”.

Dr. Sunita Mulpuru – Division of Respirology received a research fellowship in the amount of $40,000 for one year.

Dr. Lana Castellucci – Division of Hematology received a research fellowship in the amount of 40,000 for one year.

Dr. Amber Molnar – Division of Nephrology received a research fellowship in the amount of 40,000 for two years.

Dr. Naomi Spitale (Division of Respirology) received a 2 year research fellowship in the area of cardiovascular consequences of obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Dylan Blacquiere (Division of Neurology) received a 1 year research fellowship in the area of acute stroke management and stroke prevention.

Dr. Avi Chatterjee (Division of Gastroenterology) received a Developmental Team Grant to establish the Ottawa Pancreatic Cancer Research Group (OPCRG).

November 2011

Dr. Jonathan Angel (Division of Infectious Diseases) received a Mid-Career Research Salary Award.

Drs. Carl Van Walraven and Raphael Saginur (Divisions of General Internal Medicine, and Infectious Diseases, respectively) received a Clinical Priority Research Award for their grant entitled “The Ottawa Hospital Outpatient Bacteremia (TOHOB) Study: The Epidemiology and Outcomes of Outpatient Bacteremias”.

Drs. Peter Lawlor and Shirley Bush (Division of Palliative Care) were awarded a Developmental Grant for their study entitled “The preventative role of exogenous melatonin administration in patients with advanced cancer who are at high risk of delirium: a feasibility study prior to a larger randomized controlled trial”.

Dr. Curtis Cooper (Division of Infectious Diseases) was awarded a Developmental Grant for his study, in collaboration with the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism entitled “Evaluation of the Influence of Hepatitis C Protease Inhibitor-Containing Antiviral Therapy on Insulin Resistance and Lipid Profile”.

Dr. Todd Fairhead (Division of Nephrology) was awarded a Developmental Grant for his study entitled “Immunity in patients receiving extensive haemodialysis versus conventional in-home haemodialysis”.

Greg Knoll and Marc Rodger (Divisions of Nephrology and Hematology respectively) were awarded a Clinical Research Priority Grant for their study “The Implementation of a Computerized Decision Support System for Oral Anticoagulant Dosing in Hemodialysis Patients: A Study of Effectiveness and Safety in High-Risk Population”.

Dr. Alan Tinmouth (Division of Hematology) was awarded a Pilot Feasibility Grant for his study entitled “Safety and Efficacy of a Therapeutic Platelet Transfusion Strategy in Patients Receiving Outpatient-Based Care for Myelodysplastic Syndrome/Acute Myeloid Leukemia”.

Drs. Jonathan Angel and Edward O’Brien (Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Cardiology respectively) were awarded a Clinical Priority Grant for their study entitled “Circulating Endothelial Progenitor Cells in HIV-infected Men as a Marker of Cardiovascular Risk”.

Drs. David Allan and Kevin Burns (Divisions of Hematology and Nephrology respectively) were awarded a Clinical Priority Grant for their study entitled “Induction of angiogenic repair capacity in vascular progenitor cells”.

Dr. Smita Pakhale (Division of Respirology) was awarded a Pilot Feasibility Grant for her study entitled “Examining treatment adherence in adults living with CF”.
