    Faculty Career Path: Clinician-Administrator

    Dr. Peter Walker graduated from the University of Ottawa and completed research training at Laval University and the University of California in Los Angeles. He has held a number of administrative positions at The Ottawa Hospital and in the Faculty of Medicine, including Head, Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism and Head, Department of Medicine. He also served as Dean for the Faculty of Medicine. He is presently Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, an Endocrinologist at The Ottawa Hospital and Scientific Director and CEO of the Elisabeth Bruyere Research Institute. Dr. Walker’s research interests include health systems design and evaluation and health human resources planning.

    Faculty Career Path – Clinician Investigator

    Dr. Jodi Warman is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and a Clinician-Investigator in the Department of Medicine. She completed her M.D. (2006) and residency in Neurology (2012) at the University of Ottawa. She has also completed research and clinical fellowships in neuromuscular disorders and electrophysiology (McGill) and neurogenetics (Ottawa). She is currently co-Director of the uOttawa Centre for Neuromuscular Disease (Clinical Research). Her clinical interests and research focus on new technologies to identify novel genetic causes for inherited myopathies/neuromuscular disorders and to translate these discoveries into improved patient care.

  • Christine Watt MSc, MD, CCFP

    Physician Bio

    Dr. Watt completed her undergraduate medical training at McMaster University in 2015 and her Family Medicine training at McGill University in 2017. She then returned to Ottawa to complete her Palliative Medicine Enhanced Skill Training in 2018. Prior to medicine, she obtained a Bachelors of Health Science from the University of Ottawa and a Masters of Science in Human Genetics at McGill University.

    Dr. Watt now joins the Division of Palliative Medicine at the University of Ottawa as an appointed lecturer. Her academic interests include palliative delirium and neuropalliative care, as well as integrating basic science into palliative care research.

  • Philip S Wells MC FRCPC MSc

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Scientist

    Dr. Wells is Professor and Chair / Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital. He is a senior scientist in the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He has a clinical practice in venous thromboembolic diseases and performs both laboratory and clinical trials research in the area of venous thromboembolism. Dr. Wells’ particular interests have been in the area of improving diagnosis in patients with suspected DVT or pulmonary embolism and novel ways of treating patients. Economic issues associated with diagnostic and treatment issues have also been an interest as well as meta-analytic techniques for determining efficiencies of treatments that have not been subjected to large-scale clinical trials.

    Scott Wiebe MD FRCPC

    Acting Physiatrist-in-Chief, The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and Bruyère Continuing Care, and Head of Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, University of Ottawa.

    Dr. Wiebe is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada wherein he spent a fellowship year in New Zealand under an International Fellowship Grant for New Faculty from the University of Ottawa, with a focus on neurological and pain rehabilitation.

  • Andreas Wielgosz MD PhD FRCPC

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Administrator

    Dr. Wielgosz is a staff cardiologist at The Ottawa Hospital – General campus. He holds the rank of Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He also has consulting privileges at the Pembroke General Hospital.

    Dr. Wielgosz has Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Masters in Physiology (MSc) degrees from the University of Toronto. His medical degree (MD) was obtained at McMaster University in 1974. Following completion of residency training in Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, he underwent fellowship training on a Heart and Stroke Foundation fellowship in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars program in Chapel Hill, NC. While there he obtained a PhD in Public Health from the University of North Carolina.

    Dr Wielgosz holds fellowships with the Royal College of Physicians in Canada in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and he is licensed to practice in Ontario and North Carolina.

    In addition to providing clinical care, Dr Wielgosz has been actively involved with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the World Heart Federation, having served on the Board of Directors of both organizations. He remains a spokesperson for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He is also a medical consultant for Transport Canada and for the Public Health Agency of Canada.
