    Career Orientation: Clinician-Educator

    Dr. Melissa Rousseau has been appointed a Full-Time Academic (FTA) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in The Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, effective July 2015.

    Dr. Rousseau graduated from medical school at McGill University in 2007 and completed her fellowship at the University of Toronto in General Internal Medicine in 2011. She has been working as a clinical scholar in the Division of GIM for the last year and a half. She is cross-appointed at the Montfort Hospital. She recently completed the AIME/uOSSC fellowship in medical education and is in the process of obtaining her Mater Degree in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

    Her research interests lie in physical examination and bedside teaching. Her clinical interests are perioperative medicine and complex medical care.

  • Dr. Terrence Ruddy

    Terrence Ruddy MD FRCPC

    Dr. Terry Ruddy holds the Vered Chair in Cardiology and is the Director of Nuclear Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.  In addition, Dr. Ruddy is Professor of Medicine and Radiology at the University of Ottawa.

    Dr. Ruddy is a Nuclear Cardiologist and Clinician Scientist. He graduated with an MD, cum laude, with many awards, from the University of Toronto. He completed his Internship and Residencies in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Toronto, followed by a three-year Clinical and Research Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and at Harvard University in Cambridge.

    Dr. Ruddy received his specialist certifications in Internal Medicine and Cardiology from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) and American Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear Cardiology and Clinical Hypertension.

    He is a member of the Cardiology Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and past President of both Blood Pressure Canada and the Canadian Society of Nuclear Cardiology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and given over 200 presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He has had peer-reviewed funding from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Ministry of Health of Ontario, National Cancer Institute of Canada and the Ontario Research Fund.

  • Marcel Ruzicka MD PhD FRCPC

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Investigator

    Marcel Ruzicka, MD, PhD, FRCPC is Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Universityof Ottawa. He is Medical Director of the Renal Hypertension Program at the Ottawa Hospital-Riverside Campus and also Medical Director of the Hemodialysis Program at the Ottawa Hospital-Civic Campus. Dr. Marcel Ruzicka obtained his medical degree from Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic. He completed training in Internal Medicine and in Nephrology in Prague, Toronto, and Ottawa. He completed his PhD studies at the Hypertension Unit, University of Ottawa Heart Institute.Dr. Marcel Ruzicka’s academic focus is (Renal) Hypertension. He established the Renal Hypertension Program at the Ottawa Hospital-Riverside Campus. Within this program he established new educational training in Hypertension which became a part of the curriculum for trainees in Family Medicine Residency Training Program. He also formally oversees training in Hypertension for Nephrology Fellows. Dr. Marcel Ruzicka is Chair of the Committee for Renal and Renovascular Hypertension within the Canadian Hypertension Education Program and is involved in the development, annual review and update of the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertension in Canada.Dr. Marcel Ruzicka’s research focus is on the Role of the Sympathetic Nervous System in the Regulation of Blood Pressure in Patients with and without Renal Disease. His research is funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Publication record is available through PubMed.

  • Mitchell Sabloff MD FRCPC

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Investigator

    Dr. Sabloff is an assistant professor of Medicine and a clinical hematologist in the Division of Hematology and the Director of the Leukemia Program at the Ottawa Hospital. He completed a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and then obtained his medical degree at McGill University.  He then trained at Queen’s University in Internal Medicine and completed his Hematology and Stem Cell Transplant training at the University of Ottawa. Since starting on staff at the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa in 2002, he has focused his practice on malignant hematology. In 2006, he became the Director of the LeukemiaProgram and has taken many steps to improve the care of patients with acute leukemia and myelodysplasia in the Ottawa region. He has developed a specialized multidisciplinary clinic for these patients which has helped to streamline their care. He has been instrumental at helping to set up two support groups for these patients. Dr. Sabloff has developed databases and helped start the Malignant Hematology Tissue Bank at the Ottawa Hospital, both of which serve to support research in the area.   He has initiated clinical trials with others both locally as well as across other centres, nationally and internationally. Dr. Sabloff has published a number of papers in major hematology journals based on local as well as national and international data collaborating with others inthe area sof acute leukemia, aplastic anemia and stem cell transplantation

  • Elianna Saidenberg MD FRCPC

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Teacher

    Dr. Elianna Saidenberg received her medical degree from McMaster University and continued to do post-graduate education in internal medicine and hematology there. She came to uOttawa to complete fellowship training in Transfusion Medicine. She presently works as a clinical and laboratory hematologist. She is the assistant director of the Ottawa Regional Bleeding Disorders Program as well as The Ottawa Hospital Therapeutic Apheresis Program. Dr. Saidenberg is an active educator; teaching about hematology and transfusion at the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education levels. She is a member of the Ottawa Hospital Centre for Transfusion Research. Her research activities focus on patient centred outcomes in transfusion medicine, quality assurance and transfusion utilization. She collaborates with colleagues in many different departments and supervises researchers at many different stages of career development. Dr. Saidenberg is also the Department of Medicine Patient Experience representative to The Ottawa Hospital.
