    Faculty Career Path: clinician scientist

    Dr. Grégoire Le Gal is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, a clinician-scientist in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, and a senior scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Clinical Epidemiology program. Born in France, Dr. Le Gal received his M.D. degree from the University of Brest, France, in 1997, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 2004. He received a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Brest in 2007. He received fellowship training in Internal Medicine in Brest University Hospital, France, in Angiology in Geneva University Hospital, Switzerland, and completed a clinical and research fellowship in Thrombosis at the University of Ottawa in 2008. Dr. Le Gal went back to France and was appointed as a Professor of Internal Medicine at Brest University, before returning to Ottawa earlier this year. His research interests are in the areas of clinical diagnosis, diagnostic strategies and management of venous thromboembolism.

    Faculty Career Path – Clinician Teacher

    Dr. Danny Lelli is a Lecturer in Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Ottawa. He was born and raised in Ottawa, and completed his BASc (Cognitive Science option) at the University of Waterloo – accruing work experience at companies such as Cisco Systems and Pitney Bowes and producing several patents. In 2005 he changed career paths and completed medical school at McMaster University, obtaining an MD in 2008. Dr. Lelli completed neurology residency at the University of Ottawa in 2013, pursued a Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship at the University of British Columbia until June 2014, and has recently joined The Ottawa Hospital in July 2014. His main areas of clinical interest are neuro-ophthalmology and stroke (with an emphasis on vascular visual loss). Dr. Lelli has maintained a strong commitment to education throughout his early career in both engineering and medicine, and is pursuing post-graduate studies in medical education.

  • Geneviève Lemay MD FRCPC

    Physician Bio

    Dr Lemay is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa with the Division of Geriatrics at The Ottawa Hospital.  She holds responsibilities in the expansion of specialized geriatric services, through the Regional Geriatric Program of Eastern Ontario within her role as Chief of Geriatrics at Montfort Hospital.  Her clinical areas of focus includes comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), memory disorders, care of frail elderly during acute hospitalization, polypharmacy and delirium.

    She hold the position of Assistant Dean of Admissions at the Faculty of Medicine and is the Geriatric Content Expert for Integration and teaches in both the Anglophone and Francophone streams of the Undergraduate Medical Education Program.  She has also expanded geriatric clinical educational opportunities for Francophone trainees.

    As a clinical researcher at the Institut de Recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort, her current research projects include; educational opportunities for delirium detection, dementia health care service delivery in acute care and safer care transitions to the community for frail seniors with the Acute Care for Elders (ACE) initiatives.  She has also been actively involved in research on minimizing polypharmacy using tools for better prescribing with the elaboration of deprescribing guidelines for Canadian physicians.

    Dr Lemay is a graduate of the University of Ottawa’s medical school and has a Royal College Specialization in Internal Medicine and in Geriatric Medicine.  She also holds holds a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and a Masters Degree of Sciences in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of Ottawa.

    Career Path – Clinician Investigator

    Dr. Leung received his MD from the University of Ottawa in 2000. After completing a residency dedicated to Nuclear Medicine in 2006, he received specialist certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. Following a fellowship in radioisotope therapy, Dr. Leung joined the Division of Nuclear Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and holds cross-appointments in Nuclear Cardiology and the Universityof Ottawa Heart Institute. He is an assistant professor with the University of Ottawa and a clinical investigator at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

    Dr. Leung is enthusiastically committed to the field of molecular and functional imaging, and enjoys looking for new ways to broaden the understanding of this dynamic young specialty to the public, medical students, residents, technologists, and colleagues alike.

    Specific clinical and research interests include hybrid imaging and radioisotope therapy. He co-chairs the Cancer Clinic Endocrine rounds with a focus on thyroid cancer. He is actively involved in research trials investigating cardiac sarcoidosis, metastastic bone pain therapy, a national thyroid cancer registry, and apoptosis imaging.

    Career Orientation: Clinician- Teacher

    Dr Cecilia Li attended McGill University for medical school and received her MD.CM. degree in 2011. She completed her residency in Family Medicine in 2013 at the University of Western Ontario, where she also obtained her fellowship certification in Palliative Medicine (2014).

    Dr li is appointed as lecturer in the Department of Medicine, Division of Palliative Care, at the University of Ottawa effective August 2015. She practices on the Palliative Care Unit at Elizabeth Bruyere hospital and works with the Regional Palliative Care Consult team in the community. She recently enrolled in the Executive Physician leadership Program at the Telfer School of Management to improve administrative quality and safety standards for patients.
