  • Arianne Buchan MD, FRCPC

    Dr. Arianne Buchan has recently been appointed to The Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, effective September 2017.

    Dr. Buchan obtained her Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and Doctor of Medicine at Queen’s University.  She went on to complete her Internal Medicine training at the University of Ottawa, followed by her fellowship in Infectious Diseases.  Given her interest in infections in transplant and critically ill patients, she sought out further training to develop a practice in this specialized area.  Dr. Buchan pursued a fellowship in Transplant Infectious Diseases and the Immunocompromised Host at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.  After which, she completed the Program of Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health in Boston.  She is currently completing her Masters of Science in Epidemiology also at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health.

    Dr. Buchan will at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital with a specialty interest in Infectious Diseases in solid organ and stem-cell transplant patients.  Her clinical and research interests lie in screening for infectious diseases prior to transplant and in clinical outcomes related to this patient population.

    Marc Carrier MD FRCPC MSc

    Vice Chair, Research, Department of Medicine

    Dr. Marc Carrier is the current Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Medicine, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine and Senior Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program of The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He holds a Tier 2 Research Chair in Venous Thromboembolism and Cancer from the University of Ottawa and New Investigator Award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. In 2015 he was the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Michel Chrétien Researcher of the Year Award for his study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that improves care for VTE patients around the world.

    Clinical research is focused in venous thromboembolic disease and cancer, including cancer screening, prevention and management. Is currently the Principal Investigator on four peer-reviewed clinical trials (Heart and Stroke Foundation (2) and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (2) ) and numerous industry sponsored trials. He has published important systematic reviews and has had multiple international speaking invitations to speak on the topics of cancer and thrombosis.

  • Lana Castellucci MD FRCPC MSc

    Physician Bio

    Dr. Lana Castellucci is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and an Associate Scientist at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Ottawa, a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Calgary, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in Thrombosis with a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa.

    Clinical research is focused on hospitalized patients and critically ill patients, particularly in the prevention, diagnosis and management of bleeding and venous thromboembolism. Dr. Castellucci is currently the Principal Investigator on a peer-reviewed clinical trial (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) comparing two new blood thinners to determine the safest treatment of acute venous thromboembolism. She is also a Co-Principal Investigator on a peer-reviewed clinical trial (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)) comparing Warfarin and direct oral anticoagulants for secondary prevention of recurrent venous thromboembolism.

  • Grace Christou MD, MSc, FRCPC

    Physician Bio

    Dr. Christou is a malignant hematologist, member of the Leukemia Program at The Ottawa Hospital. She is a graduate of Queen’s University School of Medicine (2010) and holds a Master of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa (2004).  She completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Hematology at the University of Ottawa followed by a sub-specialty fellowship in Leukemia and Stem Cell Transplant. She is currently completing a Master of Science Degree in Epidemiology and Public Health. Dr. Christou’s research interests are in methods for engaging patients and clinicians in research priority setting, knowledge synthesis and translation in the field of hematologic malignancies.

  • Aurelien Delluc MD PhD

    Physician Bio

    Dr. Aurélien Delluc, M.D, Ph.D., is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, a clinician-scientist in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology. He was born and trained in France.

    He appointed as Full Professor of internal medicine at the Western Brittany University, France, physician in the Department of Internal Medicine and Chest Diseases at Brest University Hospital and a Senior Scientist in the “Groupe d’étude de la thrombose de Bretagne occidentale” Western Brittany Study Group on Thrombosis, EA3878, Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche, France.

    His primary research interest is the evaluation of venous thromboembolism risk (VTE) including the epidemiology of VTE, links between atherothrombosis and VTE, cancer-associated thrombosis, and VTE risk associated with hospitalization. He has 75 peer-reviewed publications in specialized journals and multiple communications in national and international meetings. He is a member of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and a regular reviewer for thrombosis journals.

  • Lisa Duffett MD FRCPC

    Career Orientation: Clinician-Scientist

    Dr. Lisa Duffett has been appointed to the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the Ottawa Hospital, effective January 2014. Dr. Duffett has also been appointed as an Associate Scientist within the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in the Clinical Epidemiology program.

    Dr. Duffett completed her medical degree at Memorial University (2007). Her postgraduate education includes Internal Medicine training at Memorial University (2010) followed by a Hematology specialization at the University of Ottawa (2012), where she served as chief resident, and a Thrombosis sub-specialization at the University of Ottawa (2014). Dr. Duffett is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Internal Medicine and Hematology). Dr. Duffett also received research training through the University of Ottawa Clinical Investigator Program (2012-2014) and is a candidate for M.Sc., Epidemiology.

    Dr. Duffett practices Hematology at the Ottawa Hospital with a focus in benign Hematology and Thrombosis. Her research interest is in Thrombosis, in particular in the diagnosis and treatment of superficial vein thrombosis and patient advocacy and engagement in clinical research. Dr. Duffett is the principle investigator on a project to develop an evidenced based patient education program with the Ottawa Hospital Thrombosis Assessment and Treatment Unit, and is actively involved in developing patient engagement collaboration within the Canadian Venous Thromboembolic Clinical Trials and Outcomes Research group
