    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Scientist

    Dr. Jolanta Karpinski graduated from medical school at theUniversityofSaskatchewanand completed Internal Medicine training at Queen’s University. She did her Nephrology fellowship atMcGillUniversityand supplementary training in clinical transplantation at theUniversityofToronto. She joined the division of Nephrology at theUniversityofOttawaas an Assistant Professor in 1998.

    Dr. Karpinski was the program director of the Adult Nephrology Training Program from 1999 to 2005. She is currently the Director of the Faculty Development Office at the Faculty of Medicine as well as Specialty Chair for Nephrology with the RCPSC. She is enrolled in the Masters Program in Medical Education at theUniversityofDundee.

  • Erin Keely MD FRCPC

    Dr. Erin Keely is the former Chief, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at The Ottawa Hospital and Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Ottawa. She is Vice-Chair Education for the Department of Medicine. Her current research interests are primarily in obstetric medicine with a focus on the postpartum management of women with gestational diabetes and in health service delivery, in particular, the implementation and evaluation of a regional eConsultation service. Her other area of academic focus is medical education with a focus on communication between health care professionals. She has received grants from the Canadian Diabetes Association, CIHR, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Health Canada.

  • Natasha Kekre BSc MD FRCPC MPH

    Brief Biography

    Dr. Natasha Kekre has been appointed to the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology, within the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at The Ottawa Hospital, effective October 2015. She is also an associate scientist within the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Ottawa. She completed her Bachelor’s in Science at the University of Windsor then obtained her medical degree from the University of Ottawa. She then trained at the University of Ottawa in Internal Medicine and Hematology. She went on to do a fellowship in stem cell transplantation at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA with a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University. Her research is focused on developing early phase clinical trials and moving home grown therapeutic strategies into patients. She collaborates with a number of local investigators and scientists in Ottawa, studying hematologic malignancies and blood and marrow transplant recipients more specifically. Her research interests include improving transplant related outcomes, specifically working to improve relapse rates after transplant. Her background in epidemiology through her masters has also created an interest in projects with an epidemiologic focus, including but not limited to decision modeling and meta-analyses. She also participates with a number of cooperative groups in North America including the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, the Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

    Career Orientation: Clinician-Investigator

    Dr. Erin Kelly has recently been appointed to the Department of Medicine in the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology as an Assistant Professor, effective July 2015.  She obtained her B. Sc and medical degree at McGill University.  She completed residency training in Internal medicine and sub-specialty training in Gastroenterology at the University of Ottawa.  She pursued additional training in Advanced Hepatology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and is in the process of completing a Masters in Clinical Trials through the London School of Heath and Tropical Medicine (London, UK).

    Dr. Kelly practices general Gastroenterology and Hepatology at The Ottawa Hospital, General Campus.  Her research interests include assessment and modulation of fibrosis in patients with chronic liver disease.

  • Tetyana Kendzerska MD PhD

    Dr. Tetyana Kendzerska has been recently appointed to the Department of Medicine in the Division of Respirology, effective March 1st, 2017.

    Dr. Kendzerska obtained her medical degree and training in Internal Medicine from Bukovinian State Medical University (Chernivtsi, Ukraine). She obtained her PhD degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research (2014) and clinical training in Sleep Medicine (2015) at the University of Toronto. This was followed by a clinical research postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES central) and University of Toronto.

    Dr. Kendzerska research interests include epidemiology of sleep apnea, particularly relationship between sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease, mortality, diabetes, depression and cancer, adherence with continuous positive airway pressure treatment, survival analyses, predictive model development and measurement of patient related outcomes. She is also interested in epidemiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the role of sleep related disorders in modulating the health consequences of chronic disease.

    Dr. Kendzerska will be contributing to clinical care in Sleep Medicine at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.
