    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Investigator

    Dr. Dent obtained her MD at McMaster University. She completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Ottawa and obtained her membership in the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in 1993. She continued her training in Medical Oncology in Ottawa, followed by a fellowship year in Clinical Research with the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group.

    Dr. Dent has held staff positions as a medical oncologist at the Northwestern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre in Thunder Bay and currently is a staff medical oncologist at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. She served as Head of the Clinical Trials Research Office at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre from 2000 to 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2007. She was recently named Vice-Chair, Patient Quality & Safety and serves as a a member of the Cancer Care Ontario Breast Disease Site Group Practice Guidelines Committee, Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board, IND working group for the Breast Cancer Disease Site Committee of the National Cancer Institute for Canada Clinical Trials Group and Grant Review Panel for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Institute of Health Research. Her areas of interest include breast cancer (in particular, side effects of breast cancer treatments), new drug development and research ethics.

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Teacher

    Dr. Desjardins is a Clinical Scholar with the Department of Medicine and a Lecturer at the University of Ottawa. She received her MD from the University of Ottawa in 2007 and completed her training in Internal Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2011.

    Dr. Desjardins is in the process of completing a Masters in Medical Education with the University of Dundee, Scotland. Since joining the Faculty Dr. Desjardins has committed herself to studying medical education and in 2012 she accepted the role of Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship Program. She makes time to attend conferences locally, nationally and internationally and looks forward to taking on ever greater leadership and administrative roles within the University of Ottawa and the Department of Medicine.

    Career Orientation: Clinician-Teacher

    Dr. Michel Dionne has been recently appointed to The Department of Medicine in the Division of Palliative Care, effective July 2015.

    Dr. Dionne obtained his B. Sc. (Hon) in chemistry and his M.D. at the University of Ottawa prior to completing training in anatomical pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax (2005). After practicing pathology in Halifax and Peterborough, he returned to Ottawa and joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa. In 2012-2013, he completed a year of training in palliative medicine at the University of Ottawa, after which he began practicing palliative care in the community. Dr. Dionne joined the Supportive and Palliative Care Consultation Service at The Ottawa Hospital as a locum physician in 2014, where he continues to practice palliative care. His main academic interest is undergraduate medical teaching.

    Sue Dojeiji MD MEd FRCPC

    Physiatrist-in-Chief, The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and Bruyère Continuing Care, University of Ottawa

    Sue Dojeiji led the Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa from 2009 to 2015.  The Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitaion has been successful in recruiting several high tier clinician scientists and dedicated clinical teachers.

    Dr. Sue Dojeiji obtained her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1993.  She a Master of Education (Health Professions) from OISE/University of Toronto in 2000 and successful completed the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists Electromyography exam.

    Dr. Dojeiji’s clinical practice includes musculoskeletal and peripheral neurologic medicine and neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation.

    She is a Clinician-Educator with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, supporting the work of the CanMEDS office, and chair of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Royal College Examination Committee.  In addition, she served as the U of O residency program director for 5 years and as a Maintenance of Certification accreditor with the University of Ottawa Continuing Medical Education Office.

    Her areas of scholarship include communication skills teaching and evaluation.  She co-developed a learning module and rating scale for assessing consultation letters. She is currently developing a rating scale to measure team based communication and collaboration within the context of the family conference.
