    Dr. Allan is a clinician-researcher with the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at The University of Ottawa and the Sprott Centre for Stem Cell Research in the Regenerative Medicine Program at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He is a graduate of Queen’s University and completed residency in Internal Medicine and Hematology at the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario. As a post-MD research fellow at Robarts Research Institute, he studied the regenerative function of hematopoietic stem cells. Prior to arriving in Ottawa in 2005, Dr. Allan completed a clinical fellowship in blood and marrow transplantation at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal.

    Dr. Sultan Altouri has been recently appointed to The Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology, effective July 2017.

    Dr. Altouri obtained his MBBS at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia.  He completed his Internal Medicine residency training and Hematology fellowship programs at McGill University between 2006 and 2011.  Then, at the University of Ottawa, he has completed fellowships in Bone Marrow Transplantation and a lymphoma/myeloma between 2011-2015.

     In August 2015, he joined the division of Hematology at The Ottawa Hospital as a locum staff. Dr. Altouri practices Bone Marrow Transplantation and Malignant Hematology at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.

  • Andrew Aw FRCPC

    Physician Bio

    Andrew Aw has been recently appointed to the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology.  He obtained his BASc (Electrical Engineering) at Queen’s University followed by his MEng (Biomedical Engineering) and medical degree at McGill University.  He completed core internal medicine and hematology fellowship training at the University of Ottawa, serving as chief medical resident from 2011-2012 and chief hematology resident from 2013-2014.  Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in lymphoproliferative disorders and an MSc in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa in addition to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s Clinical Investigator Program.  He also obtained further clinical training at the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.  Andrew practices malignant hematology at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, with a focus on patients with lymphoma and CLL.

  • Isabelle Bence-Bruckler MD FRCPC

    Faculty Career Path: Clinician Investigator

    Isabelle Bence-Bruckler is an Associate Professor at The Ottawa Hospital. She is a Clinical Hematologist and member of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. She is the Clinical Director of the Lymphoma Program and of the Malignant Hematology Trials Group. She is on the Scientific Advisory Board of Lymphoma Foundation Canada and a member of the Ontario Hematology Provincial Disease Site Group.

    Her clinical interests are in lymphoproliferative disorders and CML.

  • Christopher Bredeson MD FRCPC

    Head, Malignant Hematology and Blood & Marrow Transplant Program

    Dr. Christopher Bredeson received his medical degree (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. His postdoctorate training included an internship and residency in internal medicine at The Ottawa Hospital, as well as a residency in clinical hematology and a fellowship in the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He holds a Masters degree in Clinical Epidemiology also from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Bredeson spent a decade at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he was a Scientific Director at the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. While there he participated in the establishment of the NIH funded Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network and designed and ran several of their early trials. Dr. Bredeson returned to Ottawa in 2011 to run the Malignant Hematology and BMT Programme at The Ottawa Hospital. His interests focus on clinical research related to improving results of allogeneic stem cell transplantation; he also has a growing interest in issues related to health care delivery. Dr. Bredeson is active in research education and has mentored faculty members, residents, and medical students. Dr. Bredeson has published over 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, has received several research grants, contracts, and awards and has served as principal investigator on several studies. Dr. Bredeson is currently the President Elect for the CBMTG.
