Dr. Allan graduated from the MD program at Queen’s University in 1997 and completed residency in Internal Medicine and Hematology and the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario, respectively. As a post-MD research fellow at Robarts Reseach Institute, he studied the plasticity and regenerative function of hematopoietic stem cells. Prior to joining the Division of Hematology and Blood & Marrow Transplant Program at The Ottawa Hospital in 2005, Dr. Allan completed a clinical fellowship in blood and marrow transplantation at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal.

Dr. Pierre Allard is a Palliative Care Physician as well as a Professor in the Division of Palliative Care at the University of Ottawa since the summer 2000.
Following his certification in Community Medicine, he obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from Laval University in 1980 and a doctorate degree in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. Dr. Allard is pursuing a clinical investigator career that combines inpatient palliative care at the Ottawa Hospital and research. From 193 to 2009,he was leading the development of interdisciplinary palliative care research groups at both Laval University and University of Ottawa. Over the past 15 years, Pierre has been actively involved in numerous initiatives to sustain the development of palliative care research in Canada. Throughout his career, he attained vast experience on the scientific peer review process among several peer-reviewed research granting bodies in Canada.
In January 2010, Dr. Allard volunteered for a three-week mission in Burkina Faso, Africa with the Canadian Medical Foundation. His volunteer role was to determine in which way the Division of Palliative Care could assist in the provision of care for Burkinabe citizens who need palliative care related to their HIV positive status. He continues to provide assistance towards the development of a Burkinabe Palliative Care Center of Excellence with the support of the Canadian Medical Foundation.

Dr. Amjadi is a pulmonologist in the Division of Pulmonology who has a cross appointment in the Division of Palliative Care. He is the medical leader of the PleurX Clinic at the Cancer Assessment Centre at the General Campus for patients with pleural effusions and medical leader of the new Dyspnea Clinic at the Cancer Centre.

Dr. Angel graduated from medical school at theUniversityofTorontoin 1988 which was followed by an internal medicine residency inToronto. After one year as the chief medical resident atSt. Paul’s Hospital inVancouver, he did his clinical and research infectious diseases training at the New England Medical Centre/Tufts University inBostonsupported by an MRC fellowship. In 1995, Dr. Angel joined the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at theOttawa GeneralHospital. Since that time he has been involved in basic science and clinical research as well as patient care. His research is focused in three main areas 1) basic science: mechanisms of HIV-induced cellular immune dysfunction, 2) translational research: the impact of antiretroviral and immune-based therapies on immune function in patients with HIV infection, and 3) clinical trials: studies of immune-based therapies including HIV vaccines, in patients with HIV infection. Dr. Angel is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at theUniversityofOttawaand a Clinician Scientist in the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He is supported by a Scientist Salary Award from the AIDS Program Committee, Ontario Ministry of Health and has research funding from CIHR and the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN).
