For future health care professionals from Canada and around the world, the  Department of Medicine in Ottawa offers nationally and internationally recognized, high-quality accredited programs in a wide range of sub specialties. Guided by an outstanding academic team committed to engaging students, residents and fellows, and a focus on educational research the Department of Medicine offers career and individual guidance as well as a full continuum of education from undergraduate studies through to ongoing professional development.

The mission of the Department of Medicine is to provide the best educational experience for trainees through the continuum of their education including undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development. The principles and priorities related to the education mandate in the Department of Medicine are lead by the Vice-Chair of Education, who works in close collaboration with the Education Executive Committee. This committee is comprised of the key leaders overseeing the Medicine Clerkship (years 3 and 4), Postgraduate Education (Internal Medicine program and all other related departmental specialties), Continuing Professional Development and Education and Medical Educational Research. Through involvement in local, national and international educational organizations, Departmental members provide leadership and expertise promoting excellence in education.
