Dr. Jacob Karsh is a Rheumatologist in the Department of Medicine at the Ottawa Hospital. He trained in Rheumatology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal (Canada) then post-graduate Research Training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a full Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Karsh is the past Chairman of the Infection and Host Defense Block of the Medical Undergraduate curriculum teaching basic Immunology. His areas of expertise include basic immunology, pathogenic mechanisms in rheumatic diseases, and the pharmacology of biologic drugs, NSAIDs and other DMARD therapies. Dr. Karsh is the founder of the ROO clinicâ€”the Rheumatology and Orthopedic Clinic for the prevention of Osteoporotic fractures.
Dr. Karsh has published about 100 manuscripts on various aspects of the arthritic diseases, including articles on the early history of corticosteroid therapy. He is a member of the board of the Canadian Rheumatology Research Consortium and a former senior editor for the Canadian Medical Association Journal. He has been an External Reviewer and Consultant to Health Canada (the Canadian Drug Regulatory Agency) and CADTH (Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health).
