Undergraduate Elective Opportunities

During the 4 weeks students will spend time at either The Ottawa Hospital General or Civic campuses. They will be introduced to routinely perform clinical nuclear medicine procedures including patient preparations, radiotracers, image acquisition, normal biodistribution, interpretation, artifacts and limitations.

The students will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the performance of nuclear cardiac stress tests, lymphoscintigraphy radioiodine treatment and PET scans. The student will also be able to participate in a variety of teaching opportunities including weekly academic half day, journal club, mortality rounds, interesting case rounds and research rounds.

By the end of the elective rotation, the student is expected to have familiarized and gained insight into the practice of Nuclear Medicine and understands the indications and values of various nuclear medicine studies.
