Position Summary:

Reporting to the CAO/ED and under the direction of the Vice-Chair Quality and Clinical Services, the Research Methodologist II will provide support and guidance to facilitate the academic goals of the physician(s). Collaborates with the DOM Health Research Methodologist, IQ@TOH staff as well as clinical teams in support of research and academic initiatives and assists with projects in accordance with the Ottawa Hospital Innovation Framework.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with innovation and quality initiatives through the application of relevant analytical tools, applications and methodologies
  • Oversee and undertake collection and management of study-related data ensuring quality control, including data entry
  • Contributes to the design/development of new and/or improvement of existing tools, processes and procedures
  • In collaboration with the clinical/project team, coordinate research activities (including general project management, timelines and deliverables)
  • Assists with writing proposals, interview guides, reports and presentations of research findings
  • Assist investigators in the initiation of new research projects as well as in the interpretation and implementation of study protocols
  • Participate in data analysis using appropriate software and qualitative data analysis procedures
  • Works to ensure DOM members are aware of all relevant funding opportunities from major Canadian funders (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, etc.) as well as from focused foundations (e.g. Kidney Foundation, Canadian Liver Foundation, etc.) and international agencies (e.g. NIH, PCORI, etc).
  • Assist with the preparation of REB submissions.
  • May be required to assist with the drafting of financial reports as well as financial projections, budgets, and justification for small/straightforward projects
  • Coordinates meetings as required (may include audio visual needs, catering needs, etc).¬†¬† Coordinates agendas, takes and distributes minutes of meetings, prepares and collates meeting materials, and follows up on action items.

Qualifications:

  • Master‚Äôs degree in a health sciences related field (Epidemiology, Public Health)
  • Additional education (Postgraduate diploma or certificate) in Quality is an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in health services research
  • Preferred experience in quality improvement
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and writing of research grants, ethics proposals, and reports
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for clinical research in Canada and globally
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Advanced computer skills including experience using MS Office, database and spreadsheet programs, data entry, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; able to innovate and demonstrate a willingness to embrace change
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a deadline driven environment; excellent organizational, prioritisation, and time-management skills required to coordinate multiple activities
  • Analytical ability with excellent attention to detail
  • Exercises good judgment with respect to handling confidential information
  • Excellent client relations and support service
  • Ability to work well under stress with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in speaking and comprehending both English and French (Level B+) is an asset.
