Job Summary:

The Associate Program Director forms an essential part of the leadership team for the core internal medicine training program. The leadership team assists the Chair of the Department in fulfilling the mission, vision, and goals as these relate to the Internal Medicine residency training program.

Skills Required:

-          Be a faculty member in good standing

-          Possess strong leadership ability

-          Possess ability to negotiate, mediate conflicts, advocate and resolve problems

-          Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills;

-          Be familiar with performance management and be able to ensure that effective feedback is provided in a timely manner;

-          Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning;

-          Be up to date in best post graduate education principles and practices.

Completion of the ICRE New Program Director training, or an equivalent as agreed with the Department Chair, is required within the first two years of appointment.

The job duties for this role include but are not limited to:

As directed by the Program Director (PD), the Associate Program Director (APD) is required to:

-Assist in the development and operations of the Program, selection of candidates for admission to the Program as well in the development and      implementation of training objectives, curriculum and infrastructure.

- Assist in the evaluation and promotion of residents in accordance with policies determined by the faculty postgraduate medical education committee,  including implementation of resident evaluation and promotion using competency based medical education methodology;

- Assist in mechanisms to provide career counseling and stress management for residents;

- Facilitating implementation of competency based medical education;

- Liaise with other resident education programs, stakeholders and working groups;

- Chair a subcommittee of the Internal Medicine Residency Training Committee

- Coordinate formal Resident Mentorship Program

- Coordinate rotation schedules

- Manage site specific issues
