An aspirational leader is sought to drive change and advance the academic enterprise of the Division of Dermatology over the next five years. The ideal candidate will be an internationally respected scholar and visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills. S/he will meaningfully engage the academic leadership of the University and the affiliated teaching hospitals to build strong cross-department and cross-discipline collaboration, bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. The individual will establish an overarching vision and strategic direction for the Division.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team at multiple sites, demonstrate academic and clinical leadership experience as well as strong organizational skills. The successful applicant must be licensed to practice medicine in Ontario and hold (or is eligible for) certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; be eligible for or be a member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Additional formal training in Dermatology is an asset.
¬†The successful candidate should demonstrate academic success in leading research programs and developing junior faculty and as well clinical leadership. The successful candidate must be eligible for a University of Ottawa academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. ¬†Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is an asset.
The successful applicant is accountable to the Chair/Head of the Department in fulfilling the mission, vision and goals of the Department, the Hospital(s) and the Faculty, in particular as they relate to the Division.
The Division Head holds a joint appointment as the Head of the Division (academics) and the Head of the Division (clinical services).
The Division Head is part of the leadership team of the Department of Medicine.¬† As such, the Division Head will work with hospital(s) and faculty leadership. ¬†This is a combined role including clinical services, administrative responsibilities and opportunity for research activities.
The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is the largest academic health center in Canada and has the distinction of being the Capital‚Äôs primary health services provider covering a Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN) of hospitals and care providers spanning over 20,000 km2.¬† The Division of Dermatology is a Division within the Department of Medicine partnered with the University of Ottawa, The¬†Ottawa Hospital, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Bruyere Continuing Care and Montfort Hospital.
The division provides exemplary care to patients with a wide variety of cutaneous diseases within the Champlain LHIN, and outreach care to patients in Eastern Ontario, West Quebec and Baffin Island. The division is focusing on the development of priority programs including skin cancer with a focus on Mohs surgery and melanoma, inflammatory dermatoses such as severe psoriasis, laser surgery and chronic wound management.¬† We are currently building a new Dermatology Centre of Excellence within The Ottawa Hospital. Terms of Employment
The position of Division Head is a five-year term appointment with the possibility of reappointment for an additional five-year term.
The income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP/APP) as well as honorariums/stipends. ¬†As a result, advertised salary is an estimate.¬† Health and welfare benefits including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance are offered to full-time physicians.
