The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology invites applications for a Head, Benign Hematology/Transfusion/Program. This position reports to the Chief, Division of Hematology.


We seek an experienced hematologist to lead in clinical care, education and research in benign hematology and transfusion medicine. The Division has three well-defined and successful clinical/research programs: the Malignant Hematology, Thrombosis and Benign Hematology/Transfusion. The University of Ottawa Centre for Transfusion Research has very successfully led practice changing clinical transfusion research and is an important partner/collaborator.


You will lead a program including 6 Faculty providing care to non-malignant hematology patients in an inpatient ward, consultation services and over 6000 outpatient visits per year. Transfusion medicine research, the academic strength of your program, is led by 3 clinician scientists with epidemiology training.

Hematologist at an Assistant Professor level or higher (preferred Associate Professor or higher); Bilingualism (French and English) an asset; Masters in Epidemiology or Education an asset; Eligible for licensure in Ontario.

The income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP/APP) as well as honorariums/stipends.  Health and welfare benefits including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance are offered to full-time physicians.
