Dr. Power is the current Vice Chair of Medical Education for the Department of Medicine. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1983 at which time she was awarded the Gold Medal for academic excellence; the Robert B. Salter Award for the student who best exemplifies the qualities of compassion and excellence in care and The Dr. John Darte Award for Excellence.
Dr. Power did a rotating Internship at the University of Ottawa and then worked for two years as a General Practitioner. She returned in 1986 to the University of Ottawa where she trained in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She received her FRCP(C) in 1993.
Dr. Power is actively involved in education and administration. She was the Chief of Geriatric Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa from 2002-2012. Dr. Power is the Director of Clinical Skills for the UGME Program at the University of Ottawa (Anglophone Stream), the Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine Training Program and the executive secretary of the MCC Part 11 test committee. She is actively involved in the National Clinical Skills Working Group and she was previously the Chair of the Canadian Geriatrics Society Education Committee and the Royal College Examination Committee in Geriatric Medicine. Her research interests are in Delirium and Cardiovascular Disease in the elderly. Dr. Power previously received Clinician of the Year for The Ottawa Hospital.
