Have you ever wondered about the recent interest in ‘mindfulness’ both in medicine and among the general public? Do you know what mindfulness is? Are you aware of the research supporting its effects in reducing stress and the likelihood of burnout? This 2-hour workshop will help answer these questions in a practical and experimental session!

Educational Objectives:

1. Discuss the term mindfulness and its origins

2. Explain the research that supports the benefits of a mindfulness practice in reducing stress and burnout

3. Identify the initiatives in place at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine for supporting mindfulness in medical education

4. Demonstrate how to use specific mindfulness practices to improve resilience, communication and self- awareness, personally and professionally
