Psychiatry in the War Zone: Mental Health Care for Canadian Forces Troops in Afghanistan

Educational Objectives:

  1. To describe the mental health services available for Canadian troops on the base, Kandahar Air Field (KAF), the system for forward MH care  “outside the wire” and the system for repatriation back to Canada
  2. To describe how combat stress typically presents and is managed in the opertional setting
  3. To review typical clinical experiences in the CF mental health clinic in KAF
  4. To explain how “office-based” psychiatric care is modified for military practice and for practice in a war zone
